Sustainability is at the heart of the Alberta Ballet’s vision.

By crafting costumes with longevity in mind we can ensure these works of art can be reused in future productions, reducing waste, extending our investment, and preserving the tradition of costume-making.

Alberta Ballet owns costumes for select productions. Many of these costumes served the stage for years and, when possible, are given a second life at Alberta Ballet School. For most performances, however, we rent costumes from other companies for the duration of the run.

Alberta Ballet’s 2025/26 season includes an estimated 382 new costumes.

Alberta Ballet is investing each season in costumes through creation and acquisition representing a total investment of $380,000.

This growing collection not only elevates the visual impact of our productions but builds a sustainable repertoire of assets that can be toured, revived, and rented—delivering long-term artistic and financial return.

2025/26 Season Costumes

  • Nijinsky New Work (Mixed Bill): Cost $65,000
72 new costumes created across 4 new works

  • New Work The Nutcracker (New Work): Cost $190,000
    170 new costumes created

  • Swan Lake (New Costumes): Cost $125,000
140 new costumes to be created

Well-made costumes are more than beautiful—they’re long-term assets. With each new creation, we reduce waste, rely less on rentals, and grow a repertoire that can be revived, toured, and shared.
